Beltzhoover is south of Downtown Pittsburgh, and is surrounded by the communities of Bon Air, Knoxville, Allentown, and Mount Washington. Beltzhoover residents can walk to South Hills Junction and be whisked into Downtown on the T (subway). Beltzhoover is also just minutes from the University of Pittsburgh, South Side Hospital, Station Square, a branch of the Carnegie Library, Heinz Field, PNC Park, Mellon Arena, and Point State Park.McKinley Park is the gathering place of the Beltzhoover community. This wooded area of Beltzhoover has nature trails, playgrounds, tennis courts, a baseball field, and a senior citizens' center to name just a few of its features. Walking in McKinley Park gives you a euphoric sense of the countryside.Housing in Beltzhoover was built from 1850 to 1900 when home building was a craft, and each house was fashioned with pride. Houses on Freeland Street were made of grey sandstone from a nearby quarry, and were termed Quarry Row. Slag Hollow was named for the slag from the coal mines. The housing is solid, charming, and affordable during a time when these qualities are becoming all to uncommon.Beltzhoover is a place where neighbors of all ages join in the fun of festivals and picnics, while building for the future through the religious institutions, community organizations, and service centers.
