South of Downtown Pittsburgh, Carrick is surrounded by the communities of Overbrook, Brookline, Bon Air, Mt. Oliver, and St. Clair. Carrick today retains the traditions of its proud independence and is the first "Green Community" in the city. The Carrick business district is unique in that it consists of three commercial zones which are linked by a combination of accessible and free-standing neighborhood stores and anchored by supermarkets. The hilly terrain serves to insulate the area. Carrick also has two shopping centers, a neighborhood library, a swimming pool, a wide range of recreational facilities and numerous churches. Public transportation lines are abundant in this neighborhood.Houses in Carrick vary from Victorian to townhouses, ranches to split-level, apartments to rowhomes.Carrick, unofficially called the "Hill Top," includes young professionals, families, and elderly people. It's not unusual for several generations of one family to live on the same street in Carrick.Parts of Carrick are in Pittsburgh Council District #3, while other parts are in District #4.
